Locating a feeding site

Black bears need plenty of room to roam in which to live and prosper. When looking for potential bear hunting areas, check out old secluded logging or access roads that offer plenty of cover, also try small secluded lake edges, small riverbanks, or heavy covered areas. Ask locals if there has been any bear sightings in the area, and finally I found that asking local farmers if they have been encountering crop damage due to bears feeding in their crops, BINGO!

Once you have an area selected, the next thing to do (especially in new areas) is post the area with a few signs notifying land owners, passer-by’s (hikers, trespassers, etc) that the area is baited for the purpose of Black bear hunting. Prior to this, always consult with your local MNR before putting out any bait’s to ensure adherence with provincial laws.

Bear Magnet System Kit Setup

The Bear Magnet System Kit comes complete with Bear Magnet, Security chain, 2 quick links, 40 Lb Bag BearBites®, and 10Lbs of BearSugar®.

Setup is easy as 1-2-3.

1.Locate a good area for setup and place Bear Magnet upright on the ground.

2.Weave security chain through the two strategically placed holes on the lower end of the Bear Magnet, then use one quick link to connect chain end to the closest link on the outer side of Bear Magnet. Take the other end of security chain and wrap around a sturdy adult tree, then connect chain end to chain with quick link.

3.Remove Bear Magnet locking rim and lid. Fill Bear Magnet approx ¼ full with Magnet BearBites® then sprinkle with approx 2 ½ Lbs Magnet BearSugar®, repeat a second time until Bear Magnet is ½ full. Replace lid and locking rim. Done!

What Else Should I Know?

When starting new feeding sites use “STINK”. There are commercially sold “stink baits” on the market and the latest and most common is the “Bear Bomb”. These are aerosol type odour containers that can be discharged in the feeding area, either all at once or in spray bursts. These “Bombs” come in a few different odours, Hickory Smoke Bacon, Anise, Sow-in-Heat, and Beaver Castor. Take your pick! Believe me they work great! Once you have their (bears) attention. The Bear Magnet will do the rest. Watch’em play!
